Van Helsing is the latest addition of the SyFy channel to a roster of decent show like Z Nation, The Magicians, Killjoys and Channel Zero. The show is a spin on the vampire hunter Van Helsing.
In the premiere of Van Helsing, Vanessa Helsing (Kelly Overton), without knowing she has these abilities to fight the vampires, wakes up in a dystopian future full of vampires. She does not know she comes from a line of vampire hunters or what she is supposed to do. It has been only 5 episodes yet but SyFy decided to renew the series for the 2nd season.
According to Deadline, Syfy ordered a 13-episode season 2 for Van Helsing before the fifth episode aired and the second season is expected to start production works in January 2017. Van Helsing’s showrunner Neil LaBute made the following statement about the renewal:
“We have a wonderful and terrifying road ahead planned for Vanessa, her allies and her enemies. I think this is a world and a story that can be sustained for many years and I am inspired to do so thanks to Syfy’s obvious trust and commitment in the storytellers, cast and crew.”
