Sonic the Hedhehog is surely one of those video games that left their mark in the history. That is the reason why it was turned into an animated seris not once but twice as Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog.
Although Sega’s pioneer game was never adapted into a TV series or a movie, that could have happened any time, especially with CGI and 3D animations getting widespread in the recent years. That being said, there is a huge trend of adapting stuff like games or old movies to the modern day productions these days. This is partly due to Hollywood’s interest in already-established fan bases of said games or old movie / TV series.
It was inevitable for someone to try to adapt Sonic to big or small screen and Sony just announced that it is happening. It is planning to develop a CGI movie named Sonic the Hedgehog.
According to THR, Tim Miller, the director of R-rated movie Deadpool, will be the executive producer of Sonic the Hedgehog and his favorite working partner Jeff Fowler will direct it . The script for the movie will be written by the creators of Golan the Insatiable, Patrick Casey and Josh Miller.
“Jeff is an incredible director with strong story instincts. The world of Sonic presents the perfect opportunity for him to leverage his experience in animation to bring new dimension to this iconic character.”
