Gareth Edwards’ take on Godzilla in 2012 was useful in terms of creating interest among U.S audiences for the franchise but old-school fans in the West and Japan just did not like it that much. Therefore, Toho Pictures, the original creatures of the franchise, decided to produce a new feature; Godzilla: Resurgence in the original style with Hideaki Anno in the director’s chair.
The film will be disitbuted in U.S. by Funimation and we just learned when they will be releasing it to theaters.
Resurgence will premiere in U.S. movie theatres on October 11th and go on showing until October 18th. More than 440 theaters is going to show the movie while pre-orders for the tickets can be made starting from September 9th. Funimation also arranged some premiere events to be made in Los Angeles and New York on October 3rd and 5th, respectively. In relation to the movie, Funimation CEO Gen Fukunaga made the following statement to CBC :
We are thrilled to bring ‘Shin Godzilla’ to theaters across North America this October. Toho established Godzilla as one of the most iconic monsters in science fiction history and we’re honored to now be a part of that history with the theatrical release of this new movie. Fans will not want to miss this limited theatrical event.
For the uninformed, this movie will not be the sequel of the U.S. Godzilla (2012) – the sequel to “that” movie is still in development now as a part of a shared universe comprised of Kong: Skull Island and a remake of King Kong Vs Godzilla .
